These two birds are part of a body of work in which I play with the inherent meaning of an object—in this case, birds—and layers of other meanings implied by patterns and the juxtaposition with other objects.

Artists’s Bio: Margarita Leon was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. She attended the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and the Pacific Northwest College of Art.

She created “Creative Kids and Leon” in which students learned to explore their own creativity and were helped in pursuing their own ideas in a variety of media in a professional manner. Many of them have become successful artists. The school existed for 27 years. At the same time, she continued to produce and show her sculptures in the West and East Coasts, Central America, South America, and Europe. She has public commissions in Portland, Oregon; Salem, Oregon; and Raleigh, North Carolina as well as pieces in museums and corporate collections. She is currently working on a body of works for Flanders Gallery in Raleigh, North Carolina, and New Hope, Pennsylvania.
