Artist’s Statement: My work is a self-contained system which interacts with the wind, giving the sculpture infinite mobility. The work becomes tranquil or frenetic as the weather patterns change.

Artist’s Bio: Moto Ohtake received a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1982. As a sculptor, he has worked in ceramics, wood and stainless steel. Presently, he teaches sculpture and three-dimensional design at De Anza College in Cupertino, California, where he is chair of the art department.

Ohtake’s sculpture explores his interest in geometry and structure. His artwork is inspired by the elements of nature on both a macro and microscopic level. His work is on display in galleries and museums in the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington State, Santa Fe, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dublin, Ireland and Tokyo, Japan. His public artwork includes a 32 ft. high kinetic sculpture for the City of Stockton, a piece for The Atlanta Botanical Garden and an upcoming installation for the City of San Francisco for their Fulton Playground project.
