We are pleased to announce that the 2011 Paul Ecke Jr. Award of Excellence honoree is James Hubbell, internationally known artist and architect. James Hubbell has created nature based inspirational art here at the Garden and throughout San Diego and the World.

The Paul Ecke Junior Award of Excellence was established in 2002 in memory of Paul Ecke, Jr. The award recognizes exceptional achievement by an individual or group in one or more of the following categories encompassed by the Garden's mission; to inspire people of all ages to connect with plants and nature:

Education about plants and their roles in the environment.
Conservation of native plants and wildlife, or other rare and endangered plants.
Creation or preservation of public places for enjoying the beauty of the natural world.
Preservation or re-creation of historically significant plantings and structures.
