Artist’s Statement: Iron is one of my favorite materials. This piece, “Come Play,” is one of the few large pieces that I have done. It is a play between the vertical center and the horizontal spiral, impatient with the center stability.
The rebar central shaft is over 100 years old.
Artist’s Bio: James Hubbell is a well-known artist and architectural designer who, over the past sixty years, has shared his vision of the spirit of nature made tangible through the use of glass, tile, wood, concrete, metal and stone.
His homes, schools, gardens, pavilions, nature centers, and peace parks span the globe but are most evident at Ilan-Lael, his property in Santa Ysabel, California. His education and training was in sculpture, which lends itself so easily to the design of buildings and parks.
