Artist’s Statement: I use the patina created by metal effects paint to evoke the passage of time and my longing for a romanticized and sometimes idealized past.
Artist’s Bio: Originally from New York, Ed Whitmore has lived and worked in San Diego for the last 25 years. He uses the patina created by metal effects paint to evoke the rusted industrial cities of the past. Although not formally trained as an artist, Ed's sensibilities were shaped by frequent visits to the Museum of Modern Art. His use of color and abstract forms reflects the strong influence of Mark Rothko, whose retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum made an indelible impression on him. Ed recently had a one man show at Ashton Gallery in North Park where his work is frequently seen in juried exhibits.
